Saffron Nutrition - Traffic Light Edition 

 

  

 

 

Nutrition has never been higher on the agenda for the Catering Industry. The main focus recently being to enable consumers to make informed choices about the food they buy in restaurants and ‘out of home’. For some time now everything we buy at the supermarket has had nutritional information displayed, it’s a simple logical progression that this information will soon be available in restaurants and other food outlets. Some of the most well-known restaurant chains on the UK high street have agreed to work with the FSA to put healthy eating firmly on the menu for their customers.

 

Saffron is already successfully being used by more than 100 local authorities across the UK to help meet the nutrient standards on school meals. In partnership with the Wigan EHO, Fretwell-Downing Hospitality has developed Saffron to analyse recipes against the FSA Traffic Light Scheme.  This technology is now adding real value to the various projects to promote healthy eating being initiated by EHO’S and other catering bodies throughout the UK.

 

When assessing a caterer’s suitability for accreditation, the ability to nutritionally analyse their recipes represents a real change in the level of information available to the assessor and ultimately the consumer. Having viewed the easy to understand Traffic Light report from the software, it is also straight forward for Saffron users to demonstrate how small changes to recipes can make a big difference.

 

 

Whilst the Saffron Nutrition functionality will have the same advanced nutritional analysis, our development with FSA's Traffic Light and Allergens opens up Saffron to the High Street Hospitality providers and Restaurant chains across the UK.
