School catering website myschoollunch.co.uk has teamed up with Fretwell-Downing Hospitality (FDH) to display the nutritional analysis of menus of certain local authorities.
 
Myschoollunch.co.uk is a popular resource that twenty five local authorities are using to promote their school meal services, including the display of the weekly menus. Local authorities that are operating FDH’s Saffron Nutrition analysis system now have the option to display the nutritional analysis of the menus on their web pages as an automatic pop up when a cursor is scrolled over a particular dish. 
 
This additional feature, which is being used by authorities such as Southampton and Caerphilly, shows the content of 14 different nutrients, in-line with the Government’s school meal nutrient standards that are due to come into force in September 2008.
 
So far, the nutritional analysis feature is proving to be a useful reference for parents, pupils and teachers alike.  It supports the rest of the information on the website and helps parents and pupils adopt a healthy lifestyle and find out what is happening in the school catering service. 
 
Arnold Fewell, myschoollunch’s creator said, “There has been a great deal happening with the Government’s nutritional standards and parents have requested more information including a nutritional breakdown. 
 
“The link with Saffron on the menu pages of the website is a significant development as there is a downloadable fact sheet about the various nutrients and their importance.  We have already received a lot of positive feedback about this development and I am certain it will help restore parental confidence and support and increase in meal numbers.”
 
More than 60 local authorities now operate Saffron Nutrition nationwide in a bid to be prepared well in advance of the nutrient standards coming into force.
