ENSURING EACH PUPIL HAS A NUTRITIONALLY BALANCED DIET

Kirklees covers 254 square miles and stretches from the high moorlands of the Pennines around Marsden and Holmfirth, home of ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ in the west to the edge of Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield in the east. Kirklees Metropolitan Council provide catering services in around 190 schools, covering a wide area and diverse community. They aim to provide a responsive and flexible service to meet the individual needs of customers.

As part of their continued commitment to ensure they provide a healthy nutritional balanced diet to schools, they have selected FDH’s Saffron Nutrition solution. Saffron will be used to analyse each individual school menu cycles to ensure they meet the new nutritional guidelines. This information will then be made available to the head teacher of the school. The Council has been looking to nutritionally analyse their menus for some time and Saffron provides the perfect solution, as it allows the flexibility to create and modify the recipes, as well as being easy to use.

Annette Bird, Operations Manager, and comments “ Some years ago, we moved away from a centrally planned menu, to allow each Catering Supervisor to plan a menu within an agreed framework, to suit the needs and likes of the pupils in their school. We anticipated that this strategy would make nutritional analysis difficult. However, Saffron is capable of analysing all our 190 plus menus as well as providing us with a menu costing for each site”.
