Government and Local Authority Catering Software

Central and local government is responsible for large elements of catering activity, whether centrally or on a devolved budget basis. FDH software systems are used in many such areas, from Prison and Police services, through to school meal DSO organisations, and to civic and hospitality catering in town halls.

 

FDH's Saffron system is particularly widely used by local authority catering DSO's, who have to control hundreds of small sites on very tight "spend per pupil per day" type budgets. Local data from sites can either be handled on paper based returns, which are input into customised format screens, ensuring a swift and accurate routine for "single input" of data, or via web enabled screen located in units on some or all sites. Saffron then manages subsidies, key performance indicators, budgets, hours, weekly results and devolves this back to area and unit management teams. (See case studies ).

 

Prison and in-mate catering runs on similarly tight budgets, and common themes, but usually on a smaller number of larger sites. At the other end of the scale, civic and hospitality catering of course operates on somewhat more generous budgets, but the need to achieve targets and work within defined spending levels remains important, and here too the ability of systems to forecast purchasing and stock levels and to accurately report income and cost is every bit as important.
